JAMB: ‘UTME glitches must not undermine reforms’

A coalition of interfaith religious leaders has urged Nigerians not to let the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) technical glitches undermine the significant reforms and standards achieved by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Friday, the National Chief Imam of Al-Habibiyyah Islamic Society, Sheikh Fuad Adeyemi, and the Presiding Archbishop of Dominion Chapel International Churches, Archbishop John Praise Daniel, commended JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, for his transparency in addressing the issue.

They also called for a public investigation into the cause of the system failure and demanded that anyone found culpable be held accountable.

“Our hearts go out to all the parents and candidates affected by the recent JAMB system glitch. We understand the disappointment and distress this caused after so much preparation. Thankfully, JAMB has provided a second opportunity. We urge the candidates to stay focused and give it their best,” Imam Adeyemi said.

He lauded Prof. Oloyede’s prompt public admission of the glitch and his apology, describing it as a rare act of accountability in Nigeria’s public service.

“In a system where cover-ups are common, his transparency is a powerful testament to integrity and humility. This act has raised the bar for leadership and restored some public trust in institutions,” Adeyemi added.

Archbishop Praise echoed the same sentiments and urged for a swift and open investigation.

“Anyone found responsible must be sanctioned. This will not only restore confidence in JAMB but also deter future lapses,” he said.

Earlier in the week, Prof. Oloyede had described the incident as a disappointing setback during what was otherwise one of the board’s most successful UTME exercises in recent years. (Daily Trust)
