FCT REC meets heads of security agencies on election

The Resident Electoral Commissioner, INEC, FCT, Malam Aminu Kasimu Idris, has paid advocacy visits to the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command and the Acting Zonal Director, Economic and Financial Crime Commission(EFCC) on Tuesday, August 19th, 2025.

In his remarks at the visits, the REC stated that the advocacy call became necessary to intimate the security chiefs of the ongoing electoral activities of the Commission in the FCT , and to solicit their cooperation in the area of security.

He emphasized the critical nature of election security in electoral planning, and the importance of partnership with security organisations for security guarantees of electoral events, particularly the success of both the CVR exercise and the February, 26 Area Council elections taking place in the FCT.

He added that the Commission in the FCT will continue to prioritise its collaboration with security agencies to facilitate a secured electoral environment for electioneering activities.

In their separate responses, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Ajao Saka Adewale and the Acting Zonal Director of EFCC, Michael Wetkas, expressed their appreciation to the REC and his team for the visits.

They described FCT, the nation’s centre of unity and political influence as strategic, and assured the REC of their readiness to collaborate in providing adequate security support for the seamless conduct of electoral activities in the FCT.

The high point of the visit were presentations of voter education and information materials to the heads of security by REC, and the receipt of the agencies publications and plaque.

Accompanying the Commissioner on the visits were the Administrative Secretary, Mrs. Bimbo Oladunjoye and heads of departments of INEC,FCT.
