The Kaduna State Chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has described reports claiming the collapse of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) into its fold as “false, baseless, and unknown to the leadership of our party”.
The party was reacting to reports that the SDP in Kaduna State, had collapsed its entire structures into ADC under the leadership of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, Mallam Bashir Saidu, and Hon. Ja’afar Mohammed Sani.
A statement on Sunday signed by the Publicity Secretary of the ADC in Kaduna State, Engr Musa Idris, said the claim “is nothing more than an attempt to mislead the public.”
The full statement titled ‘ADC clarifies position on SDP and coalition matters in Kaduna State’ reads below:
The attention of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kaduna State Chapter, has been drawn to reports in circulation, claiming that the entire structures of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kaduna State, has collapsed into ADC under the leadership of Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, Mallam Bashir Saidu, and Hon. Ja’afar Mohammed Sani.
For the avoidance of doubt, this claim is false, baseless, and unknown to the leadership of our Party in Kaduna State. It is nothing more than an attempt to mislead the public.
The statement in question was signed by one Mr. Darius Kurah, a person who is neither a member of the ADC nor an official of our Party at any level. His self-appointed title of “Publicity Secretary of the Coalition” is fraudulent and constitutes Political impersonation. The only authentic and constitutionally recognized Publicity Secretary of the ADC in Kaduna State is Engr. ldris Musa.
It is also important to clarify that the comment credited to our Kaduna State Chairman, Elder Patrick D. Ambut, was taken out of context. The Chairman only attended a meeting he was invited, to review the last bye-election, not to endorse any claim of SDP structures, collapsing into ADC. He has never authorized such pronouncements. Elder Ambut, as a democrat, will surely welcome SDP members into the coalition when they choose to come properly and through the laid-down procedures.
To set the record straight:
- ADC did not convene any meeting to absorb SDP members.
- ADC did not receive or collapse SDP structures into its fold.
- ADC did not authorize any pronouncement suggesting otherwise.
Our State Working Committee (SWC), grassroots structures across the 23 LGAs, and Ward leaderships remain intact and fully functional.
While SDP is indeed part of the coalition at the National level, any individual or group wishing to join ADC must follow due process starting with membership registration at the Ward level.
There is no such thing as a wholesale “collapse of structures” in ADC, and any such claim holds no legal or political effect.
The ADC is open to genuine coalition partners from across the political spectrum whether from SDP, APC, PDP, or other platforms. However, our doors cannot be forced open by political opportunism, deceit, or backdoor proclamations.
Our party stands for inclusivity, constitutionalism, accountability, and service. We reject manipulation, imposition, and propaganda. The good people of Kaduna State deserve a party that speaks the truth and upholds democratic principles– not one that thrives on falsehood.
We therefore call on the public and the media to disregard the false claims being peddled by Mr. Darius Kurah and his sponsors. The ADC in Kaduna State remains strong, united, and committed to building a people-driven political alternative for Kaduna State and Nigeria.
