The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has organised a two-day Induction Retreat for the newly inaugurated Executives of the Joint Consultative Committee (JCC).
The retreat, held from Monday 17th to Tuesday 18th November 2025 at NECA House, Ikeja, Lagos, forms part of the Commission’s ongoing efforts to strengthen leadership capacity, improve internal communication, and promote ethical conduct among staff nationwide.
The programme brought together State Representatives from the Southern Region, newly elected National Executives of the JCC, and Management Representatives for an intensive and interactive session aimed at aligning the Committee with the Commission’s strategic vision.
Delivering the opening remarks, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Lagos State, Prof. Ayobami Salami, underscored the importance of the JCC as a structured, unified platform through which staff can express concerns, contribute ideas, and engage constructively with management.
He noted that the Commission continues to prioritise staff welfare through improved workplace relationships, open communication channels, and sustained capacity-building initiatives.
Prof. Salami further reminded members that the JCC is a consultative body not a union emphasising that its operations must remain grounded in neutrality, professionalism, and integrity.
He described the retreat as an opportunity to strengthen leadership and enhance ethical conduct across all levels of the Commission while assuring participants of Management’s continued support in fostering a peaceful and productive work environment.
In her welcome address, the JCC President, Mrs. Vera O. Awoh-Akujobi, reiterated the importance of the retreat in consolidating the Committee’s mandate and strengthening its operational foundation.
She noted that the sessions were carefully designed to deepen members’ understanding of the JCC’s roles, enhance teamwork, and equip Executives with practical communication and leadership skills.
Mrs. Awoh-Akujobi pledged the Committee’s commitment to maintaining constructive engagement with Management, expressing appreciation to the Commission for its continued support and for providing a platform that enables the JCC to function effectively.
Also speaking, the Administrative Secretary, Mrs. Oluyemi Titilayo, described the retreat as a timely and essential consolidation exercise following the inauguration of the new Executives.
She stressed the importance of continuous engagement, internal cohesion, and effective problem-solving, noting that the retreat offers an avenue to improve communication flow and strengthen the collective capacity of the Committee.
Mrs. Titilayo urged members to uphold the consultative mandate of the JCC, maintain unity, and demonstrate professionalism in all engagements.
The retreat featured technical sessions, leadership modules, and group exercises designed to enhance strategic thinking and promote collaborative problem-solving, as INEC continues to build a motivated and ethically grounded workforce.
