The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man, Ididiong James, for allegedly attacking his mother and possessing a Barreta pistol with 8 rounds of ammunition.
On January 25, 2026, at about 7:30 pm, Police Officers attached to Panshekara Division, Kano, responded to a distress call and found that James was beating his mother at their residence in Panshekara Quarters, Kano.
The suspect fled the scene upon arrival, but his mother handed over the pistol and ammunition, stating that she had discovered it in her son’s bag and refused to give it to him, leading to the violent attack.
She also expressed concern over her son’s changed behavior since his return from a New Year celebration.
The suspect was subsequently arrested and is currently in police custody.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, sfipma, mnim, mnips, masis, commends the mother for her courage and urges parents to be vigilant.
“The actions of this mother are commendable, and we appreciate her bravery in standing up against her son’s violent behavior,” CP Bakori said.
“We also caution parents to monitor their children’s activities and report any suspicious behavior to the authorities.”
The Kano State Police Command urges citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest Police Station or through the Command’s emergency numbers: 08032419754, 08123821575, or 09029292926.
