Ex-Kaduna Gov Mukhtar Yero declares Senate bid for Kaduna North

Former Kaduna State Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero has officially declared his intention to contest for the Kaduna North Senatorial seat, citing widespread calls from constituents and local party leaders.

Yero made the announcement on Thursday after receiving a solidarity visit from the Local Government Chairmen of Kaduna North Senatorial District, who unanimously endorsed his candidacy.

“Following the overwhelming calls, encouragement, and expressions of confidence from the good people of Kaduna North Senatorial District, I am deeply humbled to formally announce that I have accepted the call to serve,” Yero said in his declaration statement. “I will, by the grace of Allah (SWT), contest for the seat of the Senate representing Kaduna North Senatorial District.”

He described the endorsement as a demonstration of unity and trust, pledging to serve with “justice, fairness, and compassion.” Yero also expressed appreciation to the people of the district and to Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, for his leadership and commitment to the state’s progress.

“Leadership is a trust (Amanah), and Allah (SWT) grants power to whom He wills and at the time He wills,” he said, adding that he would work toward a “more prosperous and inclusive future for Kaduna North” if elected.

The former governor called on stakeholders, party members, and residents to remain united and focused on the collective good of their communities as the 2027 elections approach.

Yero governed Kaduna State from 2012 to 2015 following the death of Governor Patrick Yakowa. His return to the political arena adds weight to the race for Kaduna North, a key senatorial district in the state.
