NDLEA seizes over 1.5m opioid pills, recover 394 IED components

  • Bizman excretes 45 cocaine wraps

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has recorded a string of major arrests and seizures across seven states, including the interception of more than 1.5 million opioid pills, 45 pellets of ingested cocaine, and 394 components of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

The operations, carried out between April 21 and April 25, reflect what the agency describes as an intensified effort to disrupt both drug trafficking networks and emerging security threats.

NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.

Kwara: Trailer with Hidden Compartment Yields 155,900 Tramadol Capsules

At the Bode Saadu patrol point in Kwara State, NDLEA officers on Friday, April 24, intercepted a trailer with registration number RMY-70XA. A search uncovered a false compartment beneath the truck containing 155,900 capsules of tramadol, 6,000 ampoules of tramadol injection, 3,000 tablets of Co-Codamol and 9,000 tablets of Bromazepam. A 24-year-old suspect, Aminu Isah, was arrested in connection with the seizure.

Oyo: Businessman Excretes 45 Cocaine Pellets on Sokoto-Bound Trip

In Oyo State, operatives on Tuesday, April 21, stopped a commercial bus with registration number MNA 963 ZY along the Ibadan/Oyo expressway. A 33-year-old passenger, Eze Prince Emeka, who claimed to be a businessman based in Sokoto, was taken for a body scan after suspicion arose. The scan confirmed he had ingested illicit drugs. Under observation, he excreted 45 pellets of cocaine weighing 1.043 kilograms in three stages.

Investigations revealed Emeka planned to travel by road to Sokoto to avoid airport detection, then re-ingest the pellets and continue through the trans-Saharan route via Algeria to Europe.

Edo: Truck Heading to Onitsha Carrying 1.1 Million Opioid Pills

On Saturday, April 25, NDLEA officers along the Benin/Lagos expressway intercepted a truck marked NLC 146 FC conveying 1,196,000 pills of pharmaceutical opioids. Two suspects, Osagie Igbinibo, 43, and Omijie Malik, 44, were arrested. The consignment was reportedly destined for Onitsha, Anambra State.

Lagos and Bauchi: Large Cannabis Seizures

In Lagos, 40-year-old Rasheed Ibuowo was arrested on Saturday, April 25, along the Mile 2 expressway with 810 kilograms of Arizona, a potent strain of cannabis. In Bauchi, Muktar Bello, 35, was nabbed on Wednesday, April 22, on Misau Road in Azare/Katagun LGA with 288 blocks of skunk weighing 154.5kg.

Ekiti and Cross River: Massive Skunk Busts and Farm Raid

In Ekiti State, 466.8kg of skunk was recovered from the residence of 56-year-old Layit John Matthew on Ilaro Street, Isinbode-Ekiti. He had planned to transport it to Yola, Adamawa State. Meanwhile, in Cross River State, NDLEA operatives backed by soldiers destroyed 20,000kg of skunk cultivated on an eight-hectare farmland in Uyanga community, Akamkpa LGA, on Saturday, April 25. The team also recovered 170kg of processed cannabis.

Niger: 394 IED Components Seized

In a separate operation in Niger State, NDLEA officers on Wednesday, April 22, intercepted a red Toyota car with registration number KNT 617 AE along the Kontagora/Zuru road. Inside were 394 pieces of IED components being transported by 26-year-old Mohammed Aliyu to Shadadi in Mariga LGA. The suspect and exhibits have been handed over to the relevant security agency for further investigation.

WADA Sensitization and Marwa’s Commendation

Alongside enforcement, NDLEA commands nationwide continued their War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitization activities in schools, worship centres, workplaces, and communities. Lectures were held at Mallam Salisu Islamic School in Paiko, Niger; Madarasatul Abdulrahman Bin Auf in Kano; Sani Zango Daura Model Primary School in Katsina; and with community development associations in Badagry, Lagos. The Zonal Commander for Zone 4, ACGN Bridget Viashiama, also led an advocacy visit to Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule.

NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended officers in Kwara, Oyo, Edo, Cross River, Bauchi, Ekiti, Niger and Lagos for their arrests and seizures, urging them to sustain the current momentum.
