Osun police arrest suspect over assault on female officers

The Police command in Osun has arrested a man who allegedly fled to Edo after assaulting female officers on traffic duty.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists on Tuesday in Osogbo.

He said, “The suspect, seen in a widely circulated video assaulting female officers with a baton and shovel, has been arrested.”

Ojelabi said a coordinated intelligence-led operation tracked and apprehended the suspect in Edo, where he had fled to evade arrest.

He added, “The arrest underscores our commitment to ensuring violence against officers and citizens does not go unpunished.”

He said assaulting officers performing lawful duties was a serious offence, stressing that attacks on personnel would not be tolerated.

Ojelabi said the suspect would be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.

The Commissioner of Police in Osun, Ibrahim Gotan, condemned the act, describing it as “barbaric and unacceptable”.

Gotan reassured residents of the command’s resolve to protect life and property, urging cooperation with law enforcement officers. (NAN)
