The Nnamdi Azikiwe Western By-pass in Kaduna, has achieved 65%completion, the contractor, Dantata & Sawoe Construction Company, has said.
Engr. Nasiru Abdulkadir Dantata, Executive Director, Dantata & Sawoe Ltd., in an interview in Abuja, said the project, which stretches from Command Junction through Mando to Kawo bridge is progressing “so far, on the left lane, up till the end of 2025 we achieved the concrete pavement on that stretch, we have just a little of the drainage to complete that side”.
He said “from Mando to Kawo is relatively okay now, so we now have gone back to Command Junction to start the right hand side, presently we’re about five kilometres on that side.
“The only time you have issues is when you have breakdown of trailers and many of them would want to repair, so now we can work faster on the right hand side, and because we had already gone the entire stretch we can anticipate problems.
“Now we are at maybe 65% completion, the remaining 35% will be faster, but drivers are now speeding especially tricycle and motorcycle operators who are competing with heavy duty trailers.
Engr. Nasiru Dantata revealed that there are eight pedestrian bridges along the by-pass along the 21 kilometers stretch from Command Junction through Mando to Kawo Bridge.
He added that “We are expecting that by the end of this 2026 the right hand will also reach Mando, but it depends on the rainy season, what will remain in 2027 would just be Mando to Kawo and that is just one and a half kilometer. But definetly in the next year we’re out. In the next month we’ll reach the bridge at River Kaduna”.
Engr. Dantata said the Kaduna State government has also been very cooperative, they gave Dantata the space for the yard and the Governor, through the Commisioner have been helping with the community engagement, in addition to having a committee for traffic management.
“We wish to call on Kaduna residents and commuters on this road to abide by traffic regulations, they will enjoy the Kaduna Western By-pass for decades, we thank them for their patience, and trailers should not be parking on the road.
” Also, commercial vehicles should desist from picking passengers along the way, there are also dedicated bus-stops that we are constructing, will street lights, all these are causing accidents, “he said
