
The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 54-year-old man in connection with the alleged murder of a Traffic Management and Regulatory Agency official in Marian Hill, Calabar.
The suspect, Godwin Okoko, was apprehended on Monday after officials of TRAMA were allegedly attacked during a traffic enforcement operation involving a commercial mini-bus driver suspected of violating traffic rules.
According to the Command, the incident occurred at about 9:45 a.m. on May 25, 2026. Three TRAMA officials sustained injuries during the attack. One official suffered a severe chest injury after being stabbed with a screwdriver and was rushed to hospital, where he was later confirmed dead. The other two are receiving treatment and are responding positively.
Police operatives responded swiftly to a distress call and arrested the suspect at the scene.
Okoko is currently in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Calabar as investigations continue to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
The Command condemned the attack on public officers carrying out lawful duties and assured residents that justice would be pursued diligently.
