Kano, four others to suffer power outage as TCN shuts down Kumbotso 330kV substation for maintenance

The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, Kano Region, has announced a planned maintenance shutdown at its Kumbotso 330kV Transmission Substation on Sunday, June 28, 2026.

According to a notice signed on June 26, 2026 by Ndidi Mbah, GM, Public Affairs, the shutdown will take place from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

Kano Electricity Distribution Company, KEDCO, and parts of Jos Electricity Distribution Company, JEDC, and Yola Electricity Distribution Company, YEDC, will not be able to off-take power for distribution during the period.

The Nigerian states to be affected are: Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, Bauchi (Azare area), and Yobe (Nguru area). Other area affected is Gazaoua in Niger Republic.

TCN said the exercise will allow its contractor to continue upgrading 330kV bus II jumpers and to replace existing 350mm² conductors with 800mm² conductors. The company said the upgrade is to “strengthen the transmission network and improve power reliability.”

TCN apologized for the inconvenience the outage will cause electricity consumers in the affected areas.
