The Niger State Police Command has arrested nine suspects in separate operations and recovered an AK-47 rifle, 244 rounds of ammunition, suspected counterfeit currency, stolen vehicles, and motorcycles between June 21 and June 24, 2026.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed this in a statement on June 26, 2026.
Firearms and ammunition recovered in Lapai
On June 22, 2026 at about 12:30 AM, police operatives attached to Lapai Division, with vigilante members, trailed three suspicious persons on a motorcycle to a riverbank at Yawa village on the Niger-Kogi border.
The suspects, identified as Mohammed Abubakar, 28; Shede Ibrahim, 25; and Babuga Lawali, 20, all of Shanawa village, Kotonkarfe, Kogi State, were arrested while attempting to cross the river by canoe.
Recovered items include one AK-47 rifle with a magazine, 244 rounds of live ammunition, three cutlasses, and N28,000. The suspects claimed the weapons were given to them by “one Majo” for self-defence and that they came to Niger State in search of rustled cattle. Police said investigations are ongoing to identify accomplices and recover more arms.
Two arrested with suspected counterfeit $1,000
Also on June 22 at about 8:00 PM, a surveillance patrol team from T/Wada Division arrested Abba Ibrahim, 25, of Angwan-Sarki, Minna, and Abdulazeez Muhammad, 20, of Paiko at David Mark roundabout.
The duo, on a Jincheng motorcycle, were found with ten pieces of suspected counterfeit $100 notes totaling $1,000. Abdulazeez claimed he found the wallet in Paiko and planned to dispose of it in Minna with his friend. Both suspects have been transferred to SCID Minna for further investigation.
Two abandoned vehicles recovered in Minna
On June 24, police recovered two suspected stolen vehicles. At 6:30 AM, an unregistered Toyota Camry was found around Gongokpi Primary School, Sauka-Kahuta, Minna. Documents with chassis number 4T4BF1K1CR229401 were recovered.
Later at 9:00 AM, an ash-colour Toyota Corolla, Reg. No. KTU 833 FH, was recovered in Tunga with its battery removed and no documents. Both vehicles are in police custody as investigations continue.
Motorcycle theft suspects arrested in Kontagora
On June 21 at about 11:00 PM, police from ‘A’ Division Kontagora arrested Ayuba Sani, 25, of Riba village, Kebbi State, and Ishaya Isah, 20, also of Kebbi State, at a hotel by Barracks Gate.
They were found with two Bajaj motorcycles allegedly snatched from victims. The suspects confessed to lacing drinks with intoxicants, giving them to motorcycle riders, and taking the bikes after the riders became unconscious. Further investigation is ongoing.
