The Nigeria Police Force says it has rescued an abducted woman and her two-year-old son from a forest hideout in Kwara State, in what it described as another operational success against violent crime.
In a statement issued on Saturday, by Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Okokon, the Police said operatives of the Force Intelligence Department – Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT), working with local security support groups, carried out a tactical operation on Saturday, July 4, 2026, in a forest at Bode Sadu, Kwara State.
The operation followed credible intelligence that the victims were being held captive in the area.
According to the statement, the kidnappers opened fire on sighting the operatives in a bid to resist the rescue. Police said a swift tactical response forced the suspects to flee deeper into the forest.
Operatives then combed the area and successfully rescued Adijat Kuburat, 43, and her two-year-old son, Abdul Malik Hamzat.
“The rescued victims have since been taken to a medical facility, where they are receiving appropriate treatment and care,” the statement said.
The Police added that efforts have been intensified to apprehend the fleeing suspects and dismantle the criminal network behind the abduction.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, commended the gallantry and professionalism of the operatives involved in the rescue.
He reiterated the Force’s commitment to combating kidnapping and other violent crimes through sustained intelligence-led and collaborative operations “until all criminal elements are brought to justice.”
