In a bid to strengthen inter-agency collaboration in the fight against drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking, the State Commander, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kaduna State Command, CN Maijama’a Muhammad, on Wednesday, 5th August, 2026, paid a courtesy visit to the Director General of the Kaduna State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA), Engr. Mubarak Shehu Ladan.
The State Commander was accompanied by members of the Command’s Management Team.
Speaking during the visit, the State Commander explained that the courtesy call was aimed at consolidating the existing cordial relationship between the two agencies.
He acknowledged the outstanding collaboration already enjoyed with RUWASSA through the Birnin Gwari, Igabi and Railway Area/Field Commands, describing it as commendable.
Having assumed duty as the State Commander earlier this year, he noted that the visit also provided an opportunity to formally introduce himself to the Director General, reaffirm the existing partnership between both agencies and seek the Agency’s continued support and collaboration in the fight against drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking.
The Commander disclosed that about 95 percent of the illicit drugs consumed in Kaduna State are brought in from outside the state, stressing that the Command remains committed to preventing criminal elements from destroying the future of the state’s youths through drug abuse and trafficking.
He further highlighted the Agency’s core mandates, which include Supply Reduction, Drug Demand Reduction, Rehabilitation and Brief Intervention, noting that these strategic pillars have continued to yield positive results in addressing the drug menace across the state.
The visit also featured an engaging interactive session during which both agencies exchanged ideas and discussed issues relating to intelligence sharing, community participation and the operations of the Command’s rehabilitation centres.
The State Commander emphasized that the fight against drugs requires collective responsibility, as the NDLEA cannot be everywhere at the same time. He encouraged members of the public to promptly report suspicious drug-related activities to the Agency.
He also enlightened the Director General and his management team on the use and importance of drug test kits in promoting drug-free workplaces and communities.
As part of the visit, the State Commander presented a Letter of Appreciation* to the Director General in recognition of RUWASSA’s timely provision of office accommodation to the Birnin Gwari Area Command following the road construction that affected a significant portion of the Area Command’s office premises.
He expressed profound gratitude for the gesture, noting that it provided a conducive working environment, boosted the morale of officers and men and enhanced the operational efficiency of the Command in the discharge of its statutory responsibilities.
In his response, the Director General, Engr. Mubarak Shehu Ladan, expressed appreciation for the visit and commended the State Commander for enlightening him on the broad responsibilities of the NDLEA.
He admitted that he had previously thought the Agency’s role was limited to arrests but now understood its critical responsibilities in prevention, rehabilitation, public enlightenment and enforcement.
He assured the State Commander of RUWASSA’s full support and reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to sustaining the existing collaboration in the collective interest of Kaduna State.
