The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has intensified its drive to attract foreign investment with a high-level economic and investment forum held in Beijing, China.
The forum, titled ‘Nigeria’s Economic and Investment Opportunities Sharing Session’, was co-hosted by the CBN, led by Governor Olayemi Cardoso, and ICBC Standard Bank on October 22, 2026, under the theme ‘Deepening Cooperation for a Shared Future’.
The session brought together Chinese financial institutions, development finance institutions, investment funds and companies with operations in Nigeria.
According to a statement from the event, the programme featured a presentation titled “Nigeria Rising: Reformed, Resilient, Ready to Scale,” which highlighted Nigeria’s reform agenda, macroeconomic progress and investment opportunities.
A panel discussion followed, featuring perspectives from the CBN, Standard Bank Group, Flutterwave, Huawei’s Central Bank Business Unit and the China-Africa Fund for Industrial Cooperation.
Discussions focused on policy continuity and investor confidence, cross-border payments and local-currency settlement, and the role of financial innovation in supporting trade and investment.
Organisers said the presentation and panel connected Nigeria’s reform progress with the practical considerations of investors, financial institutions and businesses operating across both markets.
The Beijing session came a day after the CBN’s roundtable on the Nigeria–China financial corridor and broadened the focus from the practical challenges of trade and payments to wider opportunities for long-term investment.
The events, together with the CBN’s recent engagements in Singapore and at the IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings in Bangkok, form part of a coordinated approach across Asia to deepen financial relationships, strengthen market connectivity and support investment in Nigeria.
