- NRC confirms detonation of explosives, denies gun attack
Former Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has disclosed how he and other passengers on the Kaduna-Abuja train ran over explosives allegedly placed on the rail tracks by bandits.
Sani, who said this on Twitter on Thursday, also said a Kaduna bound train from Abuja was attacked on Wednesday night.
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) confirmed the bombing of the rail track. It however denied gun attack on the train.
“Yesterday [Wednesday night], terrorists attacked the Kaduna Abuja railway with an explosive and opened fire on the train, targeting the Engine Driver and the Tank.
“This morning,I was on board when our train ran over another explosive (which) damaged (the) rail. It took a miracle for us to escape.”
The NRC, according to the Tribune Online, said efforts are ongoing to restore the train services along that route.
When asked if there were gunshots aimed at the train driver and the tank of the train, the NRC boss Engineer Fidet Okhiria said “There was nothing like that. Only an explosive that went up on the track.”
“Are you aware that we even ran a train service this morning? There was nothing like shooting or the train by bandits. Efforts are currently ongoing to ensure full train services are restored along that route.”
Dateline Nigeria had earlier reported how a train travelling from Abuja to Kaduna broke down on Wednesday, some 40 minutes to its final destination in Rigasa.
