
The Yobe State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two soldiers over the killing of Islamic scholar Sheikh Goni Aisami Gashua around 9pm on Friday on his way back to Gashua from Kano.
The soldiers killed Sheikh Goni after he picked them in his car from a military checkpoint in Nguru to Jaji-maji in Karasuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State.
According to the report, after shooting Sheikh Goni, the soldiers tried to go away with his car but failed, which eventually led to their arrest.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Yobe State Police Command, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim gave the names of the two suspects as Lance Corporal John Gabriel and Lance Corporal Adamu Gideon of the 241 Battalion in Nguru.
He added that the suspects have been sent to the Criminal Investigation Department in Damaturu for further investigation.
Sheikh Goni’s remains was buried Saturday in Gashua town of Yobe State.
