The Adamawa State Government has established a palliative coordination and distribution committee to assist residents as a result of the Federal Government’s removal of fuel subsidy.
The 22-member committe is entrusted with overseeing the fair and equitable distribution of both food and non-food items to beneficiaries across all 21 Local Government Areas of Adamawa State.
During the swearing-in ceremony held at the Government House in Yola, Deputy Governor Professor Kaletapwa G. Farauta emphasized that the committee must carry out its duties impartially and without bias.
The committee is responsible for developing strategy plan for moving relief items from their source to distribution points or places, as well as monitoring the distribution process and coordinating with community stakeholders to ensure fairness and justice.
Prof. Farauta noted that the committee would involve various groups and persons deemed valuable to assure the success of the distribution exercise.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and Chairman of the palliative coordination and distribution committee, Hon. Awwal D. Tukur, expressed appreciation on behalf of the committee members for being entrusted with this responsibility.
He emphasized the diverse backgrounds and integrity of the committee members and assured their commitment to achieving equitable distribution.
The committee is made up of people from different sectors, including government officials, lawmakers, security personnel, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), religious and traditional leaders, and representatives from various organizations.
The SSG serves as the chairman, and other members include representatives from the National Assembly, the Adamawa House of Assembly, law enforcement agencies, civil defence, NUJ, traditional rulers, religious councils, labour unions, women’s societies, and youth councils.
The Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA) will serve as the secretariat for the committee.
The formation of this committee indicates the government’s recognition of the challenges faced by residents, as well as its efforts to alleviate their hardships through a coordinated and equitable distribution of relief materials.
