The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says all 22 registered political parties in Nigeria have submitted their membership registers ahead of the 2027 general election.
In a statement on Friday, 15th May 2026, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, said the parties completed submissions by 8th May 2026, two days before the extended deadline of 10th May 2026.
The submission is in line with Section 77(4) of the Electoral Act 2026, which requires parties to submit registers not later than 21 days before their primaries.
INEC had earlier extended the deadline from 21st April 2026 after parties raised concerns during a meeting with the Commission on 24th March 2026 over the timeline in the Revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 election. The Commission announced the new deadline on 27th March 2026.
Under the adjusted schedule, parties were permitted to conduct primaries between 23rd April and 30th May 2026.
βThe Commission will subject the submitted registers to the necessary verification processes in accordance with the law,β Haruna said.
INEC reaffirmed its commitment to conducting free, fair, credible, and inclusive elections ahead of the 2027 polls.
