Governor Uba Sani has exercised leadership by intervening in the industrial dispute between the management of Kaduna Electric and the Labour Unions, which led to power outage in Kaduna, Zamfara, Sokoto and Kebbi states.
The Arewa Think Tank which made the commendation, noted that ‘’the Governor’s intervention into a purely private entity, made the unions to sheathe their swords and electricity was restored in the four states.’’
It will be recalled that the labour unions of Kaduna Electric had embarked on industrial action a week ago, following the decision of the management to sack 444 workers, thereby causing power outage in Kaduna, Zamfara, Sokoto and Kebbi States.
Last Friday, Governor Uba Sani met with the feuding camps and afterwards, it was resolved that the management should review its actions and the unions should restore electricity, while negotiations continue.
Governor Uba Sani promised to be the Guarantor as he would ensure fairness to both sides, after both parties.
A statement signed by Muhammad Alhaji Yakubu, the Chief Convener of the Arewa Think Tank, noted that ‘’Governor Uba Sani used tact in achieving a consensus between the management and Labour.’’
‘’ Governor Uba Sani resolved the impasse with the negotiating skills of an activist and the acumen of a business man. As a product of Civil Society, he was pro-workers and at the same time, he gave Kaduna Electric a soft landing.
According to Arewa Think Tank, ‘’the five days of power outage affected Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises as well as the livelihoods of the vulnerable and the underserved in the society.
‘’So, the Governor’s action has brought relief to the people of Kaduna, Zamfara, Sokoto and Kebbi states,’’ the statement added.
The Arewa Think Tank advised ‘’the management and labour unions of Kaduna Electric to always settle their internal differences without making their customers pay for your disagreements.’’
