
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has approved a major reshuffle of senior officers across operational, training and staff appointments to strengthen operational effectiveness and national security.
The postings, announced on Friday, June 27, 2026 by Acting Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, affect field commanders, school commandants and principal staff officers at Army Headquarters.
Key operational appointments
Major General WM Dangana is now General Officer Commanding, GOC, 3 Division Nigerian Army and Commander Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, replacing Major General EF Oyinlola.
Major General EI Okoro takes over as GOC 6 Division Nigerian Army and Land Component Commander Joint Task Force South-South Operation DELTA SAFE, replacing Major General EE Emeka.
Major General JR Lar has been appointed Commander Army Headquarters Garrison, while Brigadier General OM Oyekola becomes Acting Military Secretary (Army). Brigadier General I Waziri remains Chief of Staff in the Office of the COAS.
Brigade and specialized commands
Brigadier General IB Buhari is the new Commander Headquarters 63 Brigade, and Brigadier General K Rabiu takes command of Headquarters 31 Artillery Brigade.
Major General SA Emmanuel has been named Commander Nigerian Army Space Command, in what the Army described as a push into “emerging domains of warfare and technology-driven security operations.” Major General O Adegbe is now Director Intelligence and Security at Defence Headquarters.
Training and institutions
For professional military education, Major General KE Chigbu is Deputy Commandant of the National Defence College. Major General SD Makolo becomes Commandant Nigerian Army Armour School, Major General SO Adejimi takes over the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport, and Major General FS Etim is Chief of Training at TRADOC NA. Brigadier General U Ahmad is now Commandant Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria.
Other postings
Major General KO Ukandu is the new Managing Director/CEO of Post Housing Development Limited, PHDL, while Major General AI Allison becomes Managing Director of Defence Properties Limited.
COAS charges officers
Lt. Gen. Shaibu charged the new appointees to “justify the confidence reposed in them” by showing leadership, professionalism, innovation and commitment to defending Nigeria’s sovereignty, protecting territorial integrity, and supporting civil authority.
“The Nigerian Army remains resolute in its transformation drive and commitment to building a highly professional, combat-ready and people-oriented force,” the statement said.
