“These vindictive and reckless queries were issued to the two officials for rightfully discharging their duties of communicating the decision of the branch congress of Wednesday, 27” April, 2022 against reopening the University and breaking our strike action.
“We condemn the high-handed action of the University administration which singles out the Branch Chairperson and the Ag. Secretary, for a possible reprimand, over an action that emanated from the entire members of the Branch Congress.
“Consequently, we hereby advise the university Administration not to worsen the current precarious industrial relations climate by retracing its ill-advised steps, and withdrawing the vindictive and hastily issued queries.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Kano zone of ASUU wants to re-emphasize that the ongoing national strike action of our union is patriotic and necessary for the restoration of our long neglected University system in the country.
“As a duly registered trade union, recognized by law, we shall not tolerate any form of threats or intimidation against any member or official of our union for exercising constitutionally guaranteed rights of embarking on industrial actions.
“The Zone is closely monitoring the issuance of the obnoxious queries to the branch chairperson and Ag. Secretary by the administration of KASU. We remain prepared to take appropriate action at the appropriate time on the matter,” the statement said.
Dateline Nigeria reports that the management of KASU and the university’s lecturers have engaged in a back and forth over the ongoing national industrial action by ASUU.
