Bauchi assembly confirms journalist as commissioner via zoom

The Bauchi State House of Assembly has conducted its first virtual screening of a veteran journalist Usman Shehu Usman as commissioner nominee via Zoom platform.

Usman was among the eight nominees Governor Bala Mohammed forwarded to the assembly for confirmation as commissioners.

Usman, a one time Service Chief of Deutschewelle Hausa Service, was out of the country when he was nominated as a commissioner so the House agreed to screen him virtually.

Usman Shehu Usman hails from Giade Local Government Area of Bauchi State. He began his early education with Islamic studies before proceeding to primary and secondary schools in the state.

He furthered his academic pursuit at the university level and is currently based in Germany.

Members of the assembly asked Usman critical questions and he offered satisfactory answers. After he was screened the House confirmed Usman Shehu Usman as a commissioner of the Bauchi State Executive Council, lauding his competence and readiness to serve the people of the state.

The virtual screening of a commissooner nominee via zoom excited both the legislators and spectators as well as listeners who watched and listened to the screening live.

Many people interviewed said the use of the Zoom platform for legislative screening marks a new chapter in Bauchi State’s legislative history and by leveraging technology, the Assembly demonstrated its forward-thinking approach, enabling participation irrespective of geographical barriers.

They said this move aligns with global best practices in governance and underscores the Assembly’s resolve to modernize its legislative processes.

Seven of the commissioner-nominees appeared before the legislature. They are Hon Isa Babayo Tilde and Dr. Mohammed Lawal Rimin Zayam from Toro Local Government (LG), Abdullahi Mohammed (Misau) and Dr. Bala Musa Lukshi (Dass), Iliyasu Aliyu Gital and Prof. Titus Saul Ketkukah (Tafawa Balewa) and Hon Adamu Babayo Gabarin (Darazo).

The couse confirmed all the nominees as commissioners.
