Bauchi SUBEB chairman inaugurates new education secretaries, warns against corruption

The Chairman Bauchi state Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr Abubakar Sirimbai Sheikh Dahiru has warned education secretaries against bad attitude and corrupt practices.

Dr Sirimbai gave the warning after inaugurating education secretaries of the 20 Local Goverment Education Authorities (LEAs)  in the state who were appointed by the board to man the affairs of their respective LEAs for the next four years.

He said the selection process of the education secretaries was based purely on merit, describing their appointments as an opportunity to serve the state.

“Your appointment is based on merit and you are to carry out your assignment with commitment, honesty, hard work and responsibility.

“You should be exampliary figures for the pupils and teachers in your respective local governments as this administration has zero tolerance for corruption, bad behaviour, laxity towards official duties and any misconduct will not go unpunished” 

While congratulating the new education secretaries, the Chairman charged them to work with their surbodinates in their local governments by carrying them along in the discharge of their duties in order achieve results.

The Permanent Secretary of the Board, Usman Kawu told the appointees that their major responsibility is to supervise the affairs of education in their domains and not to sit in their offices.

“Your key responsibility is a supervisory role, you are to go out and see things for yourself and not to sit in your offices, depending on rumours and hearsays on what is happening in the schools. This will help you to give accurate reports and ensure good supervision”

“His Excellency, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has graciously approved the sum of N300,000 for your monthly running cost of all the Local goverment Education Authorities, so we expect you to utilize the funds judiciously and in a transparent manner” he said

The Chairman House Commitee on education, Bauchi State House of Assembly, Hon Babayo Akuyum lamented over the state education in the state, saying that the present administration was poised to reposition the sector.

He charged the new education secretaries to be hardworking by ensuring that they monitor the attitudes of teachers towards their work by ensuring that they produce lesson plans for their pupils and submit reports on their activities on a quarterly basis.
