Borno govt donates food items to inmates of Maiduguri custodial centre

The Borno State Government has donated food items to Inmates of Maximum Custodial Centre of the Nigerian Correctional Service in Maiduguri.

While handing over the food items to the Management of the Custodial Centre, the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Prof. Usman Tar, who was ably represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Modu Alhaji Mustapha, stated that the donation became imperative as a result of the recent transfer of inmates from the State Custodial Centre to the facility during the flooding.

“We are here to support the Maximum Custodial Centre, which is a facility of the Federal Government with food items. The Maximum Custodial Centre was generous to the BOSG by accomodating the State inmates, who were evacuated from the State Custodial Centre during the Maiduguri Flood of 10th September, 2024”, said the Permanent Secretary.

In a separate remark, the Special Adviser on Religious Matters to His Excellency, Sheikh Modu Mustapha admonished the inmates to accept their fate in good hands and turn a new leaf after gaining fredom. He also advised the management of the Custodial Centre to make judicious use of the food items donated.

The items donated include:
100 bags of rice,
10 cartons of vegetable oil, 2 bags of sugar, 16 cartons of tomato, 5 cartons of black tea, 10 bags of Maize Paste (Laushi), 3 bags of Groundnut cake (kuli-kuli), bags of floor and 21 cartons of Instant Jollof rice (ready to eat).

In response, the Deputy Controller in Charge of the Custodial Centre, A.A. Baffa, appreciated the efforts of His Excellency, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum for the gesture and assured to make use of the food items judiciously.

In attendance was Babagana Mustapha, Director of Administration and Supply of the Ministry of Information and Internal Security.
