Breaking: ASUU-KASU declares total, indefinite strike

The Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities (ASUU), Kaduna State University chapter has announced the commencement of indefinite strike over welfare issues.

In a statement signed by the chairman, of the union said the industrial action was declared after several attempts to negotiate with the state government failed.

Some of the issues include non-payment of outstanding salaries (60% in 2017, May to September, 2022), non-payment of outstanding Earned Academic Allowance (EAA) from 2016 till date, group life insurance, and non-remitance of pensions from 2009 to 2019.

Other issues include non-implementation of the 25% and 35% wage award, and restoration of the university’s autonomy.

The statement added that the “congress unanimously and vehemently rejected the promises from the government of Kaduna State for lack of substance, specific details and actionable timelines on the payment of the outstanding entitlements to members.”
