

President Muhammadu Buhari, Sultan of Sokoto Muhammad Saad Abubakar, billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote and Shiite leader Ibraheem Zakzaky are among the 500 most influential Muslims in the world.
Publisher of The Muslim 500: the World’s 500 Most Influential Muslims said the list is made up of Muslims that have influence on other Muslims as well as around the world.
The top 50 individuals are ranked and listed first, while the remaining 450 names are then listed (not ranked) in categories of influence, with a small number also chosen to be in our honourable mentions section to value the notable contributions made in their fields.

President Buhari (16th) is the only Nigerian in the top 50 individuals listed.
The other Nigerians on the long list include Emir of Kano Aminu Ado Bayero, Sheikh Ibrahim Saleh, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, and Sheikh Yakubu Musa Katsina.
But the top 10 on the list are:
- President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of the Republic of Turkey.
- King Salman bin Abdul-Aziz Al-Saud, King of Saudi Arabia, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques.
- Grand Ayatollah Hajj Sayyid Ali Khamenei, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran
- King Abdullah II Ibn Al-Hussein, King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Custodian of the Holy Sites in Jerusalem
- Justice Sheikh Muhammad Taqi Usmani, Scholar and Deobandi Leader
- King Mohammed VI, King of Morocco
- General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces
