A Federal High Court in Lagos State has sentenced a 55-year-old woman, Patricia Igbinovia, to seven years in prison for trafficking young girls abroad for prostitution.
The court also ordered the convict to pay N1m for her illicit acts.
Patricia was arraigned before Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke by the National Agency for the
Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) on a six-count charge bordering on trafficking young girls, promoting girls’ prostitution and sexual exploitation; to which she pleaded guilty.
In the charge, the prosecutor, Mrs Becky Jibo, said the convict belonged to a cartel which organised and sponsored foreign travels for girls to promote prostitution and sexual exploitation.
She said the convict recruited girls from Lagos to go to Málaga in Spain for prostitution.
The defence counsel, Mr Uche Okoronkwo, urged the court to temper justice with mercy, noting that the convict was remorseful and pleaded guilty without wasting the time of the court.
But Justice Aneke sentenced the convict to seven years in prison and a fine of N1m. (NAN)
