The Bauchi State High Court number Five presided over by Justice Mu’azu Abubakar has sentenced five young men to life imprisonment for armed robbery, house trespass and criminal conspiracy.
The prosecution counsel, Barrister Usman Ibrahim Lame, told the court that the defendants—Aliyu Yusuf, Adamu Muhammed, Bilal Aliyu, Ismail Haruna, and Mansur Mu’azu—conspired to commit the unlawful act on May 29, 2018.
He said their actions violated Section 96 and were punishable under Section 97 of the Penal Code.
Lame said the defendants, armed with cutlasses and sticks, broke into the homes of Abdullahi Garba and Okafor Bright, robbing them of various valuables.
The stolen items included a Haojue motorcycle valued at N100,000, two Tecno handsets worth N13,500 each, three LG plasma televisions valued at N200,000 , two laptops worth N40,700, and six additional handsets valued at N200,000.
The Prosecution counsel brought five witnesses including the victims and Police prosecutor while the defendants each one of them defended himself.
After adopting the final.written address, counsel for the defendants, Barrister Umar I. Wunti, pleaded for leniency, citing the fact that they had already spent nearly seven years in prison.
Delivering his judgment Justice Mu’azu Abubakar found the defendants guilty, stating that their actions contravened Sections 96 and 343 of the Penal Code, as well as Section 1(2)(A & B) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provision) Act, Cap F28 LFN 2004 and sentenced them to life imprisonment.
