Customs CG consoles with Kano govt over loss of athletes

The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, has extended his heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Kano State over the tragic loss of some members of the state’s sports contingent who died in a recent auto crash.

This was contained in a press statement signed on 4 June 2025 by Chief Superintendent of Customs Tahir Balarabe, the Public Relations Officer of Kano/Jigawa Area Command on behalf of the Customs Area Controller (CAC) Comptroller Dalhatu Abubakar

The statement stated that the athletes were returning from the National Sports Festival held in Ogun State when the accident occurred, claiming several lives and leaving others injured.

It further noted that on behalf of the CGC, Comptroller Dalhatu Abubakar, Customs Area Controller of the Kano/Jigawa Area Command, led a delegation of senior officers on a condolence visit to the Kano State Government on June 3, 2025. The visit was to convey the sympathy of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) management and personnel across the country.

The delegation was received at the Government House by the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Comrade Aminu Gwarzo, who was accompanied by the Secretary to the State Government and the Head of Civil Service.

Speaking during the visit, Comptroller Abubakar conveyed the CGC’s sorrow over the tragic incident, describing it as a painful loss not only to the people of Kano State but to the nation at large.

“The CGC, on behalf of the entire Customs Service, shares in your grief and prays for strength and comfort for the bereaved families,” he said.

In response, Deputy Governor Gwarzo thanked the CGC for the thoughtful gesture and solidarity during the state’s moment of mourning. He praised the Nigeria Customs Service for showing empathy and standing with the people of Kano in their time of sorrow.

The visit concluded with a solemn moment of prayer for the souls of the deceased, asking Almighty Allah to forgive their shortcomings and grant them eternal rest in Jannatul Firdaus. Prayers were also offered for the speedy recovery of those who sustained injuries in the accident.
