The Emir of Damaturu, Dr Shehu Hashmi II Ibn Umar El-Kanemi has promised to be the ambassador of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) by mobilizing the people on the importance of the scheme’s programmes.
The emir said this when the team of NHIS officials visited his palace for a sensitisation on a Group Individual and Family Social Health Insurance Programme (GIFSHIP) in Damaturu.
He said “I assure you, we will talk and appeal to those who are well to do especially the political office holders among us to sponsor indigent people in our society for this GIFSHIP.”

The NHIS Yobe State Coordinator Alh. Dabo Ibrahim Abdullahi had informed the emir that the team was in the palace to tell him about the new NHIS programme introduced by the administration of Prof. Nasir Sambo, the Executive Secretary of the NHIS.
Discussing the benefit package under the GIFSHIP, Dr. Salisu Hassan, the Head of Programme Department, NHIS Yobe State, stated that enrollees under GIFSHIP are entitled to primary, secondary and tertiary health care like any other enrollee of the NHIS.
Alh. Mansir Akilu, the Head of Human Resources, Administration and Finance, emphasized that the programme is designed to cover the people that have not been enrolled in any of the NHIS Programme.
