DIA mourns as colonel killed in shooting at Abuja residence

The Defence Intelligence Agency, DIA, is mourning the death of one of its senior officers, Colonel A.A. Ude, who was killed by unidentified assailants at his residence in Abuja.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Agency said the incident occurred on Monday, 27 July 2026 at about 10:45pm at Phase 5, Army Housing Estate, Kurudu, Abuja.

“The Agency is deeply saddened by this unfortunate loss,” the DIA said. “The late senior officer served the nation with exceptional dedication, professionalism and unwavering commitment to the defence and security of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

According to the statement signed by Captain J.E. Oti, Acting Assistant Director, Protocol, security and law enforcement agencies have commenced a full investigation into the attack.

“Every effort is being made to identify, arrest and prosecute those responsible,” the DIA said. “The Agency is working closely with the relevant authorities to ensure that the circumstances surrounding the incident are thoroughly investigated.”

The DIA also extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, his colleagues, and all members of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

“The Agency remains resolute in its constitutional mandate to safeguard Nigeria’s security and assures the public that it will continue to work with all relevant Agencies to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice,” the statement added.
