Deputy Senate President Barau I. Jibrin (APC, Kano North) has thanked senators for supporting the establishment of North West Development Commission
The Deputy Senate President said this in a post he made on his social media handles on Thursday.
“Today, my bill on the establishment of the North West Development Commission (NWDC) scaled through a second reading during our plenary session, presided over by the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio.
“From across the country, fellow senators threw their weight behind the establishment of the commission to address the challenges facing the North West geological zone. If the North West geopolitical zone develops, the entire country will.
“While leading the debate, I told my distinguished colleagues that the commission when established will serve as a catalyst to develop the arrays of potentials of the North West as well as address the gap in infrastructural development of the region.
“The North West as a region has contributed immensely to the overall development of Nigeria in terms of Agriculture and other areas of endeavour
yet the region remains hugely underdeveloped.
“What the region requires now from the Federal Government is support to develop its infrastructure and educate its teeming youths to drive the process of developing the zone in its entirety to grow.
“The establishment of this commission will help to rebuild the North West Zone and shall provide the opportunity for the people of the Zone to display their talents and contribute immensely to the development of the country.
“I, therefore, thank my colleagues for supporting the passage of the bill for a second reading. The bill has now been referred to the Senate Committee on Special Duties for further legislative action,” Jibrin said..
