Embracing green technologies’ll guarantee Niger’s sustainable future, says SSG

The Secretary to the Niger State Government, Alhaji Abubakar Usman, has identified the easiest pathway for the State to mould a brighter and sustainable future for her teeming citizens.

According to him, it is by embracing green technologies and fostering innovation.

The SSG made the disclosure in his welcome address at the maiden Green Economy Summit organized by the State Government.

The summit attracted distinguished guests, experts, innovators and leaders in the field of green economy.

Alh. Usman explained that Niger State is endowed with an array of green assets which include abandoned natural resources and untapped renewable energy resources.

He maintained that the significance of their inaugural summit cannot be exaggerated.

The SSG said: “This Summit serves as a platform for us to explore and to capitalize on the vast opportunities associated with green technologies. We aim to develop innovative solutions that will not only protect our environment, but also drive economic growth and job creation in the State”.

He added that convening the auspicious event reflects their State Government’s commitment to embracing sustainable development and harnessing green assets as a means to ensure a prosperous future for Nigerlites.

Said the SSG: “As we gather here today, we acknowledge the challenges posed by climate change and environmental degradation”.

Recognizing the urgent need to transition towards a more sustainable and environmentally-friendly economy, Alh. Usman thanked the Niger State Governor, Rt. Hon. Mohammed Umar Bago, for hosting the ‘innovative summit’.

He said: “This is indeed a laudable initiative capable of transforming our socio-economic development and promoting the Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs, and other national and sub-national approaches to mitigating the negative impacts of climate change in our dear State, and beyond”.

He further assured that the Governor Umar Bago-led administration is committed to working in synergy with the private sector, academia and civil society to ensure that Niger State becomes a model of green economy development in Nigeria.

He said: “Let us harness the power of green assets and innovation to pave the path for a prosperous and sustainable future for Niger State. Together we can achieve remarkable progress in our journey towards green economy”.
