#EndSARS: Protesters set prisoners free in Edo

The Medium Security Correctional Centre on Sapele Road and another at Oko, in Benin, Edo State have been invaded by protesters who set some inmates free.

Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly Marcus Onobun told the BBC that though he was not in the state at the moment, he had been receiving reports of violent protest, bonfires and blockage of vehicular movement in the state.

“We have seen photos of people scaling the priaon walls. I spoke with some of the officials who said the hoodlums didn’t succeed in breaking into the facility on Sapele road, but that some were moving towards the Oko prison as well,” he said.

Meanwhile, a 24-hour curfew has been declared in the state by Governor Godwin Obaseki.
