The Federal Government has been tasked to introduce special scholarship scheme for girl child education, especially in male dominated disciplines.
Director of Information and Technology Services in the Federal Polytechnic Bida, Engr. Umar Danladi Sule made the call during a sensitization program on gender issues, held by the polytechnic’s Directorate of Gender Issues.
According to him, the girl child needed to be equipped with adequate knowledge and skills needed to advance her status for social interactions and personal development.
Sule also emphasized the need for the Child Rights Act to be strengthened and fully implemented across the country, to checkmate child abuse in the society.
Speaking to journalists at the event, the Head of the Directorate, Mrs. Hassana Hussaini explained that the event was organized to sensitize the polytechnic community and the larger society on contemporary gender issues affecting the society.
She said the idea was to promote gender mainstreaming and contribute to the fight against sexual harassment in educational institutions.
