
The Federal Government has resolved to initiate new mechanisms to prevent persistent damages and cutoffs of Federal Highways during flooding and other natural disasters.
The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, after he inspected the Kano-Maiduguri Federal Highway and Bauchi-Jigawa Federal Highway, recently destroyed by floods in Bauchi North and Central.
Senator Umahi, accompanied by Bauchi State Governor Senator Bala Muhammad, faulted some contractors handling federal road constructions for not honoring agreed specifications.
He said that the Federal Ministry of Works would henceforth closely monitor constructions and supervise completion points to avoid substandard projects.
The Minister commended Governor Bala for his prompt intervention on the affected roads, which eased movement and assured the people that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had directed the immediate rehabilitation of damaged sections.
Umahi extended presidential commiseration to the government and people of Bauchi State, praying for the repose of departed souls.
Governor Bala Muhammad commended President Tinubu for his swift response to the incident, describing it as the will of Almighty God.
He said that his administration had employed modalities aimed at maintaining all federal government roads passing through Bauchi State, subject to federal government approval
