Five vigilantes to hang for killing teenager in Kano

A Kano State High Court presided by the state chief judge, Justice Dije Abdu Aboki, has sentenced five vigilantes to death by hanging for extra-judicially killing 17-year-old Ahmad Musa (Khalifa) at Sabon Titin Panshekara of Kano State.

The convicts were Emmanuel Korau, Eliesha Ayuba Jarmai, Irimiya Timothy, Auwalu Jafar and Mustapha Haladu.

They were convicted on two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide which contravened sections 97 and 221(b) of Penal Code Law.

The convicts pleaded not guilty to the charges. The prosecution counsel presented five witnesses to prove
the case against them.

The defense counsel, Barrister Ahmad Muhammad, presented six witnesses including the defendants.

The chief judge, however, held that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt and
therefore sentenced the convicts accordingly.

The prosecution counsel, Barrister Lamido Sorondinki, informed the court that on January 22, 2022, the convicts, who were members of a vigilante group attached to Sani Abacha Youth Centre, conspired and attacked the late Ahmad Musa, at Sabon Titi.

The convicts used a long stick (gora) with which they beat the deceased to a pulp and then the first defendant used a knife to stab the deceased on his neck.

They later took the deceased’s corpse in a tricycle to their office.

The deceased was later taken to Kuntau Police Division from where he was rushed to a hospital. He was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.
