Victims of the flood disaster that hit parts of Kebbi State have recounted their ordeals to Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu as he continued to visit several villages and towns in the state to meet with thousands of displaced people.
The governor was in Bagudo local government area on Friday, a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Abubakar Mu’azu Dakingari, said on Saturday.
The governor commiserated with the people and promised them urgent government assistance, even as he conveyed the sympathy of President Muhammadu Buhari to the people.
The Governor announced that a committee of eminent personalities would be immediately setup to disburse relief materials to all the people affected by the disaster. This would include food items, clothing, bedding and cooking utensils swept away by the flood.
The governor also announced that all those who wish to be relocated upland would be assisted by the state government.
Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu also appealed to well to do individuals in the state to complement government efforts by extending personal assistance to those affected by the flood.
In their separate remarks, the local government chairman, Alhaji Muhammadu Kaura Dan Hakimi Zagga, Village Head of Bokki, the women leader in the area, Kulu Soshi all thanked the governor for the sympathy visit and appealed for more assistance to the displaced persons who lost their property to the disaster.
At the time of the governor’s visit hundreds of people, including women, children and the elderly were seen carrying their belonging and valuables upland to squat with their relations in addition to occupying public buildings including schools in the area provided by the state government.
The flood waters washed away several villages including Bagudo, Bahindi, Tuga, Marake, Saki Jiki, Mai Zagga, Soshiya, Ramen Kura, Tungar Gyara, Tungan Himo, Badaru the rest are Tungan Rini, Yuna Babba da Karama, Gumbi, Kende, Tungar Fuloti, Tungar Arabi, Tungar Guji, Tungar Bokki, Gyandane and adjoining villages.
