Former Bauchi governor bags traditional title, marries off daughter

The two ceremonies were graced by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Minister of Health Prof Mohammed Ali Pate, governors of Bauchi and Gombe states, among others

Former Governor of Bauchi State Mohammed Abubakar has married off his daughter and bagged the traditional title of the First Makama Babba of the Bauchi Emirate.

The two ceremonies were graced by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Minister of Health Prof Mohammed Ali Pate, governors of Bauchi and Gombe states, among other high-profile personalities.

Both events were conducted at the palace of the Emir of Bauchi Alhaji Dr Rilwanu Suleimanu Adamu. The wedding fatiha was presided over by the Chief Imam of Bauchi Alhaji Bala Ahmad.

Shettima stood in as the representative of the daughter of the former governor while Chigarin Bauchi Yusuf Yakubu Wanka stood in for the groom Sadiq Mohammed Wanka.

Immediately after the wedding, the Emir of Bauchi turbanned the former governor as the first Makama Babba. The former governor was dressed in black royal robe.

The former governor rode on horse back around the streets in Bauchi metropolus acknowledging cheers from the public and spectators.

Earlier, Shettima, who landed at the Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa International Airport in Bauchi, was received by Governor Bala Mohammed and the Gombe State Governor Mohammed Inuwa Yahaya.

The event was attended by several other high-profile dignitaries, including the former Governor of Bauchi State Ahmadu Mu’azu, Deputy Governor of Yobe State, traditional rulers and people from all walks of life. The Emir’s palace was filled to capacity.

Sadiq Mohammed Wanka tied the nuptial knot with Khadijatu Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar after he paid a dowry of N300,000 only.

In his remarks, Bauchi State Governor Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed expressed gratitude to Shettima, Pate, Gombe State Governor and others for attending the wedding Fatiha and the turbaning ceremony of the former governor.

He congratulated the former Governor for what he described as the best and well deserved tittle because of his contribution to the development of the state.
