FUD gets 3 new associate professors

The third Governing Council of Federal University Dutse at its seventh council meeting this week approved the promotion of Dr. Mikail Umar Isyaku of the Department of Anatomy, Dr. Ibrahim Adam of the Economics and Development Studies and Dr. Salihu Ibrahim Ismail of the Department of Clinical Biochemistry to the rank of Associate Professors.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abdulkarim Sabo Mohammed on behalf of the management of the university, congratulated the academic staff over their well deserved promotion

Brief on Dr. Mikail

Dr. Mika’il Umar Isyaku was born in Koki quarters, Kano, from Kiru Local, Kano state. He attended Dantata Memorial Primary school, 1978-1984, Science Secondary school Dawakin Kudu, Kano, 1990

He had his BSc. Human Anatomy, MSc. Human Anatomy and PhD Human Anatomy) (Histology and Embryology specialist) Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, 1997, 2008 and 2015 respectively.

He joined Bayero University, Kano from 1999-2017

Brief Profile of Dr. Ibrahim Adam

Dr. Ibrahim Muhammad Adam: B.Sc. Economics (BUK), M.Sc. Economics (BUK), PhD. Economics (NDA), MNES, FCIB, MNIM, MBA, PGDE, is a pioneer academic staff of Federal University Dutse (FUD), Fellow of Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) and Associate Member of Nigeran Economic Society (NES).

He started his academic career in 1997 with Kano State Polytechnic and later joined the services of First Bank of Nigeria PLC in 1999 as a graduate trainee where he rose to the rank of Manager and Head of FirsBank Academy Kano in 2008. Dr Adam has over 22 years of teaching and research exposure and has published over 30 peer-reviewed academic articles in national and international journals and conference proceedings among others.

He is a member of several university committees, held many administrative positions and won number of research grants amongst which five(5) are Tetfund IBR Grants. He is currently serving second term as Head of Department, Department of Economics and Development Studies, FUD; Deputy Director Academic Services and IJMB Programme Coordinator, FUD Consultancy Services; Chairman Nigerian Economic Society-NES, Jigawa State Chapter and Chairman , Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria-CIBN, Jigawa State Branch. Dr Adam is happily married with many children.

Brief on Dr. Salihu Ibrahim

Salihu Ibrahim Isma’il was born in Ringim Jigawa State and is presently an Associate Professor of Clinical Biochemistry in the Medical Biochemistry Unit of Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences at Federal University Dutse, where he has been participating in teaching and research since 2014. He was the Deputy Director Research and Publications from 2018–2021, where he led the research team for the development of plant based herbal formulation for management of Covid19 secondary complications which is presently undergoing registration with NAFDAC as FUDBIOTIC™ Syrup and FUDBIOTIC™ Herbal Tea.

Salihu completed his Ph.D at Ahmadu Bello University Zaria and his undergraduate studies at Bayero University Kano. His main research interests lie in the area of diabetes pathophysiology, ranging from etiology to identification of new therapeutic target, he also has interest in drug research and development where he developed, registered with NAFDAC and patented four (4) of his plant based herbal medications. He has collaborated actively with researchers in several other disciplines of computer science, particularly machine learning and artificial intelligence where he developed and registered with Nigeria Copyright Commission (NCC) a software trade marked as “DREAMA™” that uses a diabetes metabolic algorithm to assess and monitor the conditions of diabetic patients to help improve their treatment outcome.

Salihu is serving on many committees among which are the Expert Committee on establishment of National Institute of Traditional, Complementary and Alternative Medicine; Committee for the development of Nigerian Traditional Medicine and Practices Book; Training and Development Committee, Human Resource Development and Empowerment Initiative and Jigawa State Health Research and Ethics Committee (HREC) and has served in several University’s committee at both council, senate, faculty and departmental level. He has attended several conferences within and outside Nigeria, has several article publications in both local and international journals. He is married with kids.
