Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda has reiterated support for the local government autonomy.
The Governor made this declaration while playing host to the National Executive Council of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) who are on a courtesy visit to the State Government House led by the National President, Engr. Bello Lawal Yandaki.
The Governor in his address expressed gratitude for the trust bestowed upon Engr. Bello Lawal Yandaki as the National ALGON President in the October, 2024 ALGON national election.
Governor Radda emphasized that this achievement is not just an individual honour, but a collective recognition for Katsina State, the Northwest and Nigeria at large.
Addressing the critical issue of local government autonomy, Governor Radda reaffirmed his steadfast commitment to empowering local government structures.
He detailed his administration’s approach, which involves providing local governments with financial independence while maintaining strict oversight and supervision to ensure judicious use of funds.
The Governor, however, pledged continued support, assuring the ALGON national executives that his doors remain open for collaboration and guidance.
Earlier in the opening remark, ALGON National President, Engr. Bello Lawal Yandaki who is also the Chairman Kaita Local Government Council said the visit is a homecoming and tradition of the association.
He further described Governor Radda as one of the members of the association while he was serving as Chairman Charanchi Local Government.
Engr. Yandaki stated that the association recognized the state’s remarkable achievements under Governor Radda within one year and some months in office.
Engr. Yandaki also appreciated the Governor’s support during his national presidential contest and requested him to serve as a point of contact for inter-governmental partnerships and collaboration to deepen engagement across the 774 local governments in the country.
The delegation noted the successful inaugural National Executive Council meeting of the new executives, and praised Katsina State’s hospitality and peace, directly challenging external narratives about insecurity.
The courtesy visit was attended by Members of the Katsina State Executive Council, Immediate Past ALGON National President Hon. Aminu Mua’zu Maifata, former National President Ibrahim Dasuki Jalo, ALGON Chairman Board of Trustees and ALGON National Executive Council Members.
