An NGO, Concerned Citizen for Good Leadership And Sustainable Development Initiative has given its endorsement of Senator Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari of Zamfara State as the most qualified to be Senate Present of Federation.
This was stated at a press conference after a two-day lecture organised by the association at the Continental Hotel in Abuja on Saturday.
The national secretary of the association, Alhaji Suleiman Dan-Asabe Kakanda while briefing the press said that Senator Yari has the impeccable record and the qualifications for the position and also for the independence of legislature, there is need for a free and level playing ground for the upper-chamber of the national assembly to choose its leadership.
Also speaking at the programme, the chairman of the occasion, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, senator-elect, Ondo-South senatorial District said Senator Yari is the most qualified being a former lawmaker in the House of Representatives, a Governor for two terms and Chairman of the Nigerain Governors Forum, {NGF}.
Senator Jimoh Ibrahim who was represented by Honourable Lawalli M.Usman also showed his stand on Senator Yari by stating that there is need for the independence of the legislature in order to lay a foundation for good governance in the country and also said the group will continue to work with Senator Yari all the time.
The guest speaker, Professor Mohammed Kabir Isa, expressed his belief in the project as the zone provided the largest number of votes for the party during the elections at all levels.
He said Nigeria needs people with vision and ideas as Yari in order to fill a round hole with a round peg as Yari is a grassroot mobiliser and an effective leader like Sir Ahmadu Bello, Chief Nnamdi Azikiwe and Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
The group coordinator while making his endorsement stated that the records of Senator Yari are conspicuous in his state and at national level as a House of Representative Member and also the Chairman of the governor forum.
In his closing remarks at the event, AlhajiHaliru Sifawa stated that the national Assembly should not be cajoled on its ledership and the country should not be taken backward on sentimental peculiarities to select its leaders.
