Residents of Zakka in Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State said unidentified gunmen have attacked their community and abducted 17 women, rustled animals and carted away property.
One of the residents said the gunmen stormed the area late on Sunday and spent over two hours perpetrating their dastardly act. They started by firing shots in the air to scare the people who fled into the bush.
“They rustled cattle and sheep after going from house to house robbing residents. They later left with 17 women,” the resident told the BBC Hausa Service.
He however said that the gunmen later returned a five-year-old girl while four of the women escaped, adding that no life was lost.
The Katsina State Police Command has yet to comment on the attack.
This is not the first attack on the community, Dateline Nigeria reports.
