Many prisoners have reportedly escaped from the Abolongo prison in Oyo town after some gunmen attacked the correctional centre.
Confirming the incident, spokesman for the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) in the state, Olanrewaju Anjorin said that the senior officers of the agency were on their way to assess the level of damage.
The gunmen reportedly arrived the facility in large numbers around 11pm on Friday. “They were shooting indiscriminately, forcing the guards to flee, before setting the inmates free,” a source said.
