Gunmen have killed two senior police officers in Garki Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The slain officers included a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and a Superintendent of Police (SP), while a rank and file was injured
The spokesman of the Jigawa State Police Command DSP Abdu Jinjiri said the incident happened on Friday after the policemen were ambushed near a Fulani settlement.
DSP Jinjiri said one of the gunmen was killed in an exchange of fire.
He said the gunmen were trailed after abducting one Zainab Isa Zakari, a student of the Sule Lamido University, last Monday in Maigatari Local Government Area of the state.
“Intelligence had shown that there is a kidnappers’ hideout in Kargo town of Garki LGA. The bandits had been terrorizing Gumel emirate.
“The police office in Gumel launched an attack on Friday around midnight. Sadly the gunmen ambushed our men and opened fire on them, leading to exchange of fire. They killed our senior officers and wounded another,” he said.
