Billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote has identified what Nigeria needs to drive sustainable and inclusive growth.
Dangote, who is Africa’s richest man, said this via a poat on his twitter handle on Friday.
He said, “Nigeria has one of the largest domestic markets with a population of over 200 million people.
“We need to drive sustainable and inclusive growth through industrialization, economic diversification and import substitution, creating jobs and driving economic prosperity.”
Dateline Nigeria reports that Dangote had on Wednesday aired his views about the Nigerian economy at a Roundtable session with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, with the theme “Going for Growth 2.0.”
He said when he read that the Nigerian Customs collected N1.35trn import duties last year, it means the economy isn’t working.
“If the economy is working, the Customs shouldn’t collect that much money, it is the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) that should,” he said.
