The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Tuesday, visited Zamfara State to pay respects to three police officers killed in the line of duty and to reassure officers of the Force’s resolve against banditry and violent crime.
IGP Disu joined officers, families, and residents at the Islamic funeral prayer, Salat al-Janazah, held in honour of the fallen officers, according to a statement by Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid.
He was received by senior government officials and security stakeholders, including the Secretary to the Zamfara State Government, Mallam Abubakar M. Nakwada, who represented Governor Dauda Lawal at the funeral and related engagements.
Addressing officers and men of the Zamfara State Police Command, the IGP described the deceased as courageous personnel who paid the ultimate sacrifice while confronting criminal elements threatening peace in the state.
He extended condolences of the Force Management Team and the entire Nigeria Police Force to the families of the deceased, assuring that “their sacrifice would never be forgotten.”
While acknowledging the pain of the loss, IGP Disu said it would only strengthen the Force’s resolve to sustain operations against banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes.
He urged officers to remain focused, resilient, and professional, stressing that criminals “would not be allowed to undermine the determination of security agencies to restore lasting peace.”
Disu commends Command’s operational successes
The IGP commended the Command for recent achievements, including: arrest of criminal suspects, recovery of explosives and other dangerous materials, recovery of stolen motorcycles, rescue of kidnapped victims and successful operations against armed bandits.
He said the successes demonstrate the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing, operational commitment, and inter-agency collaboration in tackling security challenges in Zamfara.
IGP Disu assured officers of continued efforts to improve operational capacity, logistics, welfare, and other resources needed for effective policing. He emphasized the importance of intelligence-led operations, community partnership, and collaboration with sister security agencies.
“The greatest tribute to the fallen officers will be the continued pursuit of peace, security, and justice for the people of Zamfara State,” he said, urging officers to remain steadfast, disciplined, and dedicated to their constitutional responsibilities.
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to supporting personnel and strengthening efforts to protect lives and property, combat violent crime, and enhance public safety nationwide.
