IHRC Relief Fund Trust partners NDLEA Kaduna on drug prevention, human rights advocacy

The International Human Rights Commission Relief Fund Trust (IHRC-RFT), Kaduna State Chapter, has sought strategic collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to strengthen drug abuse prevention and human rights advocacy across the state.

The delegation, led by the State Director, Ambassador Musa Bawa, paid a courtesy visit to the NDLEA Kaduna State Command Headquarters on Thursday, 16th July 2026. They were received by the State Commander, CN Maijama’a Muhammad, and members of the Command’s Management Team.

Speaking on behalf of the State Director, the Director of Lobbying and Policy Making, Mrs. Mercy Ene Okoye, said the visit was aimed at building stronger ties with the NDLEA in areas of drug abuse prevention, public enlightenment, youth engagement, and community-based interventions.

She commended the Agency for its commitment to combating drug trafficking and substance abuse, noting that NDLEA’s work extends beyond enforcement to protecting families and giving hope to victims of drug abuse.

“Addressing the drug problem requires collective action. The Commission is ready to partner with the NDLEA in awareness campaigns, advocacy programmes, school sensitization, rehabilitation support, and other humanitarian initiatives across Kaduna State,” she said.

In his response, CN Maijama’a Muhammad welcomed the collaboration and said the fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking cannot be won by the Agency alone.

“The NDLEA’s doors remain open to meaningful partnerships. We are committed to upholding the fundamental human rights of every individual, including suspects in our custody, while professionally discharging our duties,” he stated.

The Commander highlighted the Agency’s dual mandate of “Drug Supply Reduction and Drug Demand Reduction”, and stressed the need for more collaboration in preventive education, counselling, treatment, rehabilitation, and community sensitization.

As part of the engagement, he introduced the delegation to drug test kits and urged parents, schools, employers, and other stakeholders to embrace drug testing as a preventive tool for early detection and timely intervention.

Members of the delegation also commended the Command’s operational successes and the professionalism of its officers, particularly those on patrol and highway operations.

Both organizations ended the visit with renewed commitments to deepen collaboration in advancing drug control efforts, promoting human rights, and fostering safer and healthier communities in Kaduna State.

Also in another statement signed by S. Garba, ASN I, SO Media and Advocacy, NDLEA, Kaduna State Command, CN Maijama’a Muhammad received the People’s Assembly of Northern Kaduna Initiatives for Peace and Harmony (PANKIPHA), led by its leader, Mallam Hassan Sunusi, on a courtesy visit.
