In loving Memory of Yusuf Amuda Aliyu

The world feels a little less bright now. The happiness that once echoed through our family gatherings, the stories that captured our imaginations, and the warmth that radiated from his presence are now cherished memories. My Uncle Yusuf Amuda Aliyu a man who embodied kindness, wisdom, and humor, has passed away, leaving a void that words can scarcely fill.

From my earliest memories, Yusuf Amuda Aliyu was a figure of strength and comfort. He was the person who could turn any dull moment into an adventure, whose wisdom was wrapped in humor, making life’s lessons easier to bear. Whether it was his playful teasing or the way he always made time to listen, he had a unique way of making everyone around him feel special and loved.

His love for life was contagious. He approached each day with an energy that seemed boundless, and he had a remarkable ability to find joy in the simplest things. I remember the talk about my grandma worrying about the fact that uncle liked to go to rivers around ilorin to swim. But my Dad told her to let him explore as long as he is focused in school and gets excellent grades. A walk around, a shared meal, or a long conversation—these were the moments he cherished, and in turn, he taught us to cherish them too.

Yusuf Amuda Aliyu was more than just an uncle to me; he was a mentor, a friend, and a guide. I remember my first visit from him when I was a fresh Jambito at the University of Ilorin. He said to me ……Hauwa welcome to my school. I am expecting a first class from you.(He had a first class degree in Engineering from University of Ilorin….Hence his getting employment letters on merit from shell petroleum twice)And I looked him up, and i told him…. I am not a brainee like you. Everyone knows you don’t read, but you always top your class, hence the nickname you got, Braincooler.Despite my arguments, i got wads of cash and a lunch date along with my friends. And we had a cruise round ilorin town in his never have seen – the newest model of Volvo. That even our lagos friends were gaping and asking questions about because of the uniqueness of the car.He had a way of understanding me even when I couldn’t find the words to express myself. His advice was always given with care, never judgmental, always encouraging me to be the best version of myself.

The news of his passing has left me numb. It’s hard to imagine a world without his infectious laugh, his comforting presence, and his unwavering support. Yet, even in this moment of grief, I find solace in the memories we’ve shared. The lessons he’s taught me, the love he’s shown, and the impact he’s had on my life will remain with me forever.

Yusuf Amuda Aliyu may no longer be with us in person, but his spirit, his love, and his legacy will continue to live on in our hearts. He was a man who touched so many lives, and I know that I am just one of many who will carry his memory forward. He was not perfect hence a discussion I had with him a few years ago…..Am like please slow down …leave this attitude of partying and the likes for younger guys….And his words were….Hauwa I think I do things in moderation. And we argued and argued into the wee hours of the night.I described him as an enigma during his fidau…..yes an enigma because I usually wonder why so bright but not an Efico or nerd.why so interested in life yet very serious minded, why so humane, why so generous …..why touching so many lives…..so many whys.I looked into the crowd during his fidau and what came to mind is the crowd around Haram in Mecca. And I burst into tears…..why so many people.where are they from. How did he know them…..ENIGMA.

As we say goodbye, I take comfort in knowing that he lived a life full of love, laughter, and meaning. Rest in peace, Yusuf Amuda Aliyu . You will be missed more than words can express, but your memory will be cherished forever.
